The psychological therapy program “Phototherapy and Metaphoric Associative Cards (MAC)” is a social service designed to provide psychological support, emotional recovery, and personal development for mothers raising children and adults with disabilities through the use of art therapy, phototherapy, and metaphoric associative card techniques.
Women who provide daily care for a child or adult with a disability often carry a significant emotional burden and internal stress that can be difficult to express openly. Exhaustion, anxiety, fear for the future, guilt, emotional burnout, and loneliness frequently remain unspoken because women become accustomed to being strong for others while neglecting their own emotional well-being.
The “Phototherapy and MAC” program was created as a safe and supportive space where women can gently explore their feelings, emotions, and inner experiences through images, associations, photography, creativity, and symbolic reflection – without fear of judgment or the pressure to explain everything in words.
Phototherapy helps participants work with emotions through photographs, visual imagery, and symbolic associations. Very often, an image can reveal feelings or experiences that are difficult to recognize or verbalize directly. Through photography, women are able to better understand their emotional state, personal needs, life experiences, and inner world.
The Metaphoric Associative Cards method allows participants to carefully explore emotions, inner conflicts, fears, personal resources, and life situations through symbolic images and associations. This approach helps women reconnect with themselves, discover new inner strengths, and recognize personal resources even during difficult life circumstances.
The goals of the therapy include:
- supporting emotional well-being and reducing stress;
- developing self-awareness and understanding of personal emotions and needs;
- encouraging creativity and activation of inner resources;
- strengthening emotional resilience and the ability to cope with stressful situations;
- increasing self-confidence and inner emotional support;
- creating a safe space for emotional expression and shared experiences;
- reducing emotional exhaustion and preventing psychological burnout;
- Strengthening social adaptation and support resources within the family and community.
During the sessions, women not only work through their emotional experiences but also receive support from other participants who are living through similar realities. Very often, these groups become spaces where women experience acceptance, trust, understanding, and the important realisation that they are not alone in their struggles.
A particularly valuable part of the program is the opportunity to speak about difficult emotions without fear of misunderstanding or judgment. Through creative therapeutic methods, women gradually learn to listen to themselves more deeply, accept their emotions, and allow themselves to exist not only as “strong mothers,” but also as human beings who deserve care, support, and emotional restoration.
The “Associative Cards” program contributes to personal growth, improved psychological well-being, restoration of inner emotional resources, and the development of greater emotional stability. This directly influences the emotional atmosphere within the family, the quality of relationships with children, and the family’s ability to cope with everyday challenges.
Most importantly, this therapy helps women reconnect with themselves, their emotions, and their inner strength, reminding them that even in the most difficult life circumstances every person deserves support, acceptance, and the right to be heard.
