The physical therapy program “Stretching” is a social service designed to support the physical health, emotional recovery, and inner well-being of mothers raising children and adults with disabilities.
Women who provide daily care for a child or adult with a disability often live under constant physical and emotional strain. Chronic fatigue, physical overload, back and neck pain, disrupted sleep, and ongoing stress gradually exhaust the body and leave little opportunity for recovery. Very often, mothers become accustomed to ignoring their own well-being while placing the needs of their loved ones above their own.
The “Stretching” program was created as a safe and supportive space where women can pause, reconnect with themselves, and pay attention to their own bodies and needs. Through gentle stretching exercises, breathing practices, mobility work, and relaxation techniques, participants gradually restore body awareness, release tension, and regain a sense of lightness, balance, and inner calm.
Sessions are adapted according to each participant’s physical condition, level of fatigue, and individual abilities. It is important to us that every woman feels safe, respected, and able to participate at her own pace without pressure or fear of overexertion.
The goals of the physical therapy program include:
- improving flexibility and mobility of muscles and joints;
- reducing muscular tension and preventing pain in the back, neck, and joints;
- developing coordination, balance, and body awareness;
- stimulating circulation and supporting overall physical tone;
- improving posture and body mobility;
- supporting emotional well-being and reducing stress;
- reducing fatigue, emotional exhaustion, and anxiety;
- restoring inner resources and supporting energy for everyday life.
During the sessions, women not only work with their bodies, but also gradually learn to listen to themselves, recognise their own needs, and allow themselves care and rest without feelings of guilt. For many participants, these sessions become a rare opportunity to breathe deeply, slow down, and experience support from other women living through similar challenges.
A particularly valuable aspect of the programme is the atmosphere of acceptance and mutual understanding created during the sessions. There is no judgement, comparison, or expectation to “stay strong” at all times. Instead, it is a space where women are allowed to be tired, emotional, human – while gradually reconnecting with their own inner strength.
Regular stretching sessions contribute to improved physical fitness, emotional resilience, and overall well-being. Restoring physical energy and reducing stress directly influence a woman’s ability to care for herself, support her family, and cope with everyday challenges without reaching complete exhaustion.
Most importantly, this program reminds women that caring for themselves is not selfishness or weakness. It is an essential foundation that allows them to preserve their strength, health, and emotional resources for life, love, and caring for those closest to them.
