Training Kitchen and Daily Living Skills Development

This social service is designed to develop practical life skills for children with disabilities, children with severe disabilities (Subgroup A), and adults with disabilities that are essential for greater independence, social adaptation, and active participation in community life.

The sessions take place in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment, with careful consideration of each participant’s individual abilities, needs, and pace of development.

The training kitchen is much more than learning how to cook or manage household tasks. It is a space where individuals learn to become more independent, feel a sense of personal value, and gain confidence in their ability to manage everyday activities. For many of our participants, even the smallest daily tasks become important steps towards independence and a better quality of life.

During the sessions, participants gradually learn how to:

  • plan and organise simple cooking activities;
  • safely use kitchen equipment and household items;
  • prepare simple meals and follow hygiene routines;
  • develop fine motor skills, coordination, and sequencing abilities;
  • build independent eating and daily living skills;
  • interact with others, work as part of a team, and ask for support when needed;
  • make decisions, take responsibility for simple tasks, and complete activities independently.

A strong focus is placed not only on practical skills development, but also on the emotional well-being of participants. We create an atmosphere where individuals feel safe to make mistakes, try new things, receive encouragement, and celebrate even small achievements. It is through these small successes that self-confidence and motivation gradually begin to grow.

For children with severe disabilities (Subgroup A), all activities are carefully adapted according to their physical, sensory, and communication needs. It is important that every child has the opportunity to participate, experience inclusion, interact with the environment, and develop a sense of independence in ways that are accessible and meaningful for them.

The training kitchen also serves as an important space for social inclusion. Through shared activities, participants learn to communicate, cooperate, share responsibilities, support one another, and feel part of a community. For many children and teenagers, these everyday interactions become one of their first experiences of genuine social participation and belonging.

The sessions support the development of independence, self-confidence, social adaptation, and preparation for more autonomous daily living within the family and wider community. Most importantly, they help children and adults with disabilities realise that they are capable of far more than they may believe, and that every new skill is another step towards a dignified, meaningful, and fuller life.
